Fashion in Politics: Michelle Obama

I'm a politics student at university and I know that most people see politics as old men in boring suits discussing issues. But it's not always like that. Some of the politicians and their wives look good and show that you can be fashionable and political.

This series of posts will look at the women (and the odd man) who makes politics look good.
This first post will look at the style of America's First Lady: Michelle Obama.
Here in the UK, we love her and agree that she has an amazing style thats quite rare in politics. Her signature looks are pretty dresses and gorgeous shoes. She has a very classy and elegant style that looks great at all the events she attends. Very rarely has a first lady been said to be a fashion icon, but this is exactly what Michelle is today. And I personally have never seen anyone discuss a first lady's fashion to such an extent. She was even on the cover of Vogue's March issue.
She knows what works for her. She wears a lot of sleeveless dresses that show off her magnificant arms. She's also known to have lots of J.Crew outfits, alongside her designer dresses. Not only is she beautiful, she is also very clever and knows what she's talking about. She shows you that you can be glamorous and smart at the same time.

My favourite dress of hers is the purple silk dress she wore when Obama got the nomination. It's such a simple and gorgeous dress and the pearls that go with it complement the dress perfectly...

I also loved what she wore to Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People Gala. It was so simple and classy. It was designed by Michael Kors. And the necklaces she topped the dress of with are also absolutely gorgeous.

'You can't make decisions based on fear and the possibility of what might happen.'
Michelle Obama

Are there any other women politics that you think should be featured in this series of posts?

I think another political figure that has a good fashion sense is cindy mccain(john mccain's wife) i like her color choices for pantsuits(i loved the yellow one she wore)

I love this post, I did a similar one at the end of April - what a coincidence!
I think you should include Carla Bruni-Sarkozy as she always dressed impeccably. I can't for the life of me remember the name of a reasonably well dressed female MP I saw the other day, she was a minister for something, possibly housing. I forget now. I should know being an A Level Politics student but never mind.
Love the blog by the way!
