Style Swap with Harriet

For this Style Swap, I was lucky to interview Harriet, from Where Is Harriet? She has an amazing blog, filled with some great posts.

Where do you live and what do you do?
Currently I live in Bristol in the West of England and I’m a student!

Why did you decide to start a blog?
I’ve been blogging for ages, first on a now defunct livejournal still floating around out there somewhere with all my teenage angst aboard it(!) and now at I started Where is Harriet because I missed blogging, but I wanted to write about more than just what I had for lunch today and how boring that last piece of homework was! My aim is to mix the personal side of blogging with more articles about things that interest me, particularly in fashion but also art and culture and travel and food and… all my favourite things really!

Where are your favourite places to shop?
In my dreams? Selfridges on Oxford Street! I worked around the corner from there last summer and oh dear me, I spent many a lunch hour wandering around just gazing at all the beautiful clothes I couldn’t afford.
In reality though I am a Topshop and Dorothy Perkins addict.
What is your favourite piece of clothing?
I have a bit of a problem with stripy jersey dresses at the moment. I think I own five or six!

How would you define your personal style?
Ladylike with bite! I love looking prim and proper, but with an unexpected modern twist – think ball gowns and leather jackets, pussy bow blouses and studded belts, military detailing with beribboned knee socks!

What are your hobbies and how do you like to relax?
Does it sound bad if I say I like to pick fights?! Not really, I promise! I was captain of my martial arts club (I do a Japanese style of martial arts called Shorinji Kempo - this year and I really enjoy the mental and physical discipline it takes – if I have any worries or problems it’s a great way to take my mind off things for a couple of hours.
Other than that I (obviously) find blogging a great creative way to relax. I don’t consider myself a very creative person generally so it’s really nice to be able to write and feel like I’ve achieved something every time I hit submit on a post.

What is your favourite city, or where would you like to live/work and why?
I am moving back to London when I graduate this summer, which I am really looking forward to. I spent most of my childhood there and I really love it – there’s always new things to do and see. If not London I would probably most want to live in San Francisco. I travelled there last Christmas to stay with a friend who was living there for a year and I have to say I was really jealous of her! I think it combines the best things about America and Europe into one perfect city.

Who is your biggest inspiration?
People who manage to look elegant and put together all the time! Think Blair Waldorf in real life!
What are your plans for the future?
As I mentioned I’m moving to London next year to start a career in Finance (my first real grownup job!). I’ve loved my time at university to bits, but I’m excited about starting a new stage of my life.
I’m also planning on using this summer to revamp my blog (It’s in dire need of a layout other than the standard blogger template!) and I want to develop my vision and voice. Ok, that last bit sounded a bit pretentious, but truly, I still feel like I’m finding my feet in the blogosphere (and in life!), and trying to work out exactly what it is I want to say!
Check out her blog to find out more about her.

I love this Style Swap. Only recently did I begin visiting Harriet's blog; and each day I love it more and more. We have so much in common - I too believe that Blair Waldorf is my inspiration. What fun it was getting to know more about Harriet! :)
