It's time for a serious post: yes, it was bound to happen eventually, hehe.
I've always wanted to read Dorian Gray. Its one of those storylines that I've always been drawn to. I recently saw the movie and it was just so intiguing and interesting! It encouraged me to read the book, which I've just finished, and I loved it. It was full of some great quotes but the moral of the story was superb. It was so shocking and really thought provoking.
For those of you who haven't read it, I'll give a quick synopsis, hopefully, without ruining it for you guys. Basically, its about a young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty. A portrait of him shows whats going on in is soul, but his beauty remains untouched, as he pursues a life of immorality.
This really got me thinking about how far someone would go to perserve their youth. I mean we all want to look young and beautiful forever, don't we?
I'll be the first to admit this, I'm very vain and personally, I've aways been kind of scared of growing old, especially since recently, when I found my first small strand of white hair!
We live in world that is obsessed with image and beauty, and we've seen how the media hounds celebrities when they're not looking their best. We've all heard stories of plastic surgery going wrong but even then, its becoming more and more popular. Personally, I think the only time someone should get plastic surgery done is when they are physically scarred, for example from severe burns. But lots of people spend loads and loads just to make themselves appear younger.
A lot of people do age gracefully and naturally, so why change the natural process?
Not to mention the ridiculous amount of creams and formulas that are designed to make you appear '10 years younger'.
So I wanted to ask: how far would you go to maintain your youth? And why do you think that people are so scared of growing old? And last question: would you actually like to be eternally young?
