The Humble T

It's time for another guest post. This time we're featuring Harriet from Where Is Harriet?. She is a lovely blogger, and, having met her a few times, we can attest to the fact that she's an even lovelier person! Enjoy her post.

The humble T-shirt. There must surely be at least one in every wardrobe, gathering dust and taken out only on that rare occasion you decide to go running or (gasp!) the gym. As I was browsing ASOS recently (which I almost never do, obviously…) and on the odd trip to the shops or two (another very rare occurrence, I’m sure you realise…) I noticed that printed t-shirts really are never out of fashion, and are definitely not just for lounging about the house in (You only have to look at Sherin’s fabulous T-Post t-shirt or Leia’s Escaped Convict Topshop tee!)

How to Wear It:

The most ubiquitous way of wearing a t-shirt is naturally the t-shirt and jeans combo. Whether an outsized tee over skinnies and ballet flats, with a snugly boyfriend cardi, or a pair of peg jeans, some fancy-schmancy heels and a sophisticated blazer this is always a winner for those ‘I don’t know what to wear’ days.

If you want to try something a bit different though why not go all Marcus Lupfer and tuck your t-shirt into a high-waisted skirt with just the top of the pattern peeking out, or dare to bare your midriff with a cropped t-shirt, plain skirt and thick tights. If this is a bit too cold for you how about a body or slim fit cami underneath to keep those pectorals warm?!

The T-shirt dress is another staple that works great in summer with sandals and sunglasses, or in winter with a warm scarf and woolly tights. If you’re a dressed down kind of girl it’s a great way of dressing up without actually dressing up!

Where to buy it:

Where not to buy is a more likely question! Browsing the shops here in the UK has turned up hundreds upon hundreds of candidates for my wardrobe, with H&M, New Look and Miss Selfridge winning for cute budget buys. If you’ve got a bit more money to splash how about looking at Wildfox on ASOS, or heading over to My Wardrobe for DKNY and Zoe and Morgan or Netaporter for McQ by Alexander McQueen and See by Chloe?

Thanks, Harriet! We must remember never to underestimate the power of a great tee.

Remember, if you want to guest post for HiFashion, we'd love to hear your ideas. E-mail us!

P.S. Sherin is still on holiday and really wants to come home now :(

A white tee is indeed a staple in the closet. I'm not really a jeans and tee girl but I style my white tee in such a way that it'll be me. Thanks for sharing this Harriet.

I have a lot of graphic tees in my closet, that I use every so often. I am aware T-shirts are very frowned upon by part of the fashion community, but do I give a F? No! Skinny jeans or leggins with a tee and rain boots is the best outfit ever for days like yesterday (pouring rain for 12 hours straight).

Great post!

What's good about printed t-shirts is that they are playful yet sophisticated, and have the ability to possess a vintage flair to them. Also, they look adorable if paired with a posh skirt, as they dress it down! Great post, Harriet!! :)

I love T-shirts with shorts or with a mini skirt too for the summer. When it's cooler, T-shirts are great for layering underneath your sweater.

Great post! :)
