Louboutins

I want I want I want!!! They are all beautiful shoes and look so nice. The signature red soles just make the shoes really special. I love the story behind the red soles. Christian Louboutin saw an assistant painting her nails red, and he immediately grabbed the bottle of nail polish and painted the soles of his shoes.
Anyway, here are a few of my favourites from this timeless brand.

The petals on some of the shoes are really brilliant. If you want to make them, check out the tutorial from ...love Meagan. It is a fantastic tutorial and her shoes came out really well.

My South Asian Outfit

I'm not the most traditional of people. I usually stick to jeans etc and avoid traditional south asian clothes on a daily basis. They're usually reserved for weddings, and even then I complain about them.
So, when I was invited to a graduation party, where the dress code was traditional, I was slightly apprehensive. But my friend persuaded me to go and wear traditional clothes and this is what I wore:

What I actually liked about the outfit was the trousers that go with it. They were very baggy and very much like something that Jasmine from Aladdin would wear.

And these are my shoes:

And the heel of the shoes:

(The first picture is the back of the heel, and the second picture is a side view of the heel)

What do
you guys think of it, and would you consider wearing it?

Fashion in Politics: Queen Rania of Jordan

When I was younger, I, like every other girl in the world, wanted to be a Princess/Queen. This means that right now, I love the real royals that exist, and one such Queen I adore is Queen Rania of Jordan.

She does so much humanitarian work. She is a very influential advocate of women's and children's rights. She's pushed for better education and better schooling around the world. She is a powerful woman and one who uses this power to improve the world. She is a gorgeous, strong woman, and I would love to be like her when I'm older.
Instead of lazing around and just looking good for the cameras, she aims to go o
ut into the world and make a difference.
On top of saving the world, she also looks utterly amazing. In 2005, Harpers & Queens Magazine named her the worlds 3rd most beautiful woman.

She dresses like true royalty. Although Jordan is a fairly Conservative country, she has a very
modern touch to her look. You can see a lot of gorgeous dresses, which you'd expect any Queen to wear. At formal event, you can see her wearing lovely evening dresses. The pictures above show her in gorgeous white dresses that make her look very glamourous.

She can also do casual and day wear extremely well. Anyone can copy her style. Its not too 'royal' or expensive to pull off. On the right, she's wearing wide leg jeans and beige jacket. It's so casual, but she looks great in it.
On the left, she's in a perfectly fitted black suit, with gorgeous heels.

She is the perfect role model for women across the world as she is strong, beautiful and intelligent, with amazing style. She has her own Youtube channel. Check it out to
find out more about her. She's also on twitter, so check her out there as well.

'As you educate a woman, you educate the family. If you educate the girls, you educate the future.'
- Queen Rania

Alexander McQueen

What a designer! His pieces are truly out of this world.

Alexander McQueen is an English designer who really knows about fashion. He's been designing since he was a young boy (dresses for his sister) and he even went to Saint Martins (if you haven't heard of it, it is one of the best fashion schools).

His designs are so different to an
ything else on the runway and tend to shock people. I personally loved Spring/Summer 2005 catwalk show, where he turned the runway into a human chess game. As a chess enthusiast, I think that's spectacular. As you can see in the pictures, his catwalk shows are really out of the ordinary.

Alexander McQueen

I love those skulls on the jewellery. Absolute genius.

And some of my favourites from past shows:

Fashion in Politics: Cindy McCain

At the bottom of my Fashion in Politics posts, I ask whether anyone else has any ideas on fashionable politicians/wives. Well, Miss Neira recommended Cindy McCain. We don't know much about her here in the UK, but while researching her, it was clear that she had some style. I was particularly recommended to check out a yellow suit she wore, and have to admit it was gorgeous.
Clearly, Mrs McCain knows about fashion and wears high end designers, such as Carolina Herrara. What I love about her style is that she looks like she knows her age and figure and wears things flattering to it. I noticed that she wears more fitted clothing and has a very sophisticated style. Her looks are more classic and conservative. In the above pictures, you can see that she really likes her colours, which I find most women stray away from as they reach their 40's. She shows that colours work for lots of women and you shouldn't shy away from them.

Are there any other female politicians you think that should be added to this list?

Style Swap with Harriet

For this Style Swap, I was lucky to interview Harriet, from Where Is Harriet? She has an amazing blog, filled with some great posts.

Where do you live and what do you do?

Currently I live in Bristol in the West of England and I’m a student!

Why did you decide to start a blog?

I’ve been blogging for ages, first on a now defunct livejournal still floating around out there somewhere with all my teenage angst aboard it(!) and now at whereisharriet.blogspot.com. I started Where is Harriet because I missed blogging, but I wanted to write about more than just what I had for lunch today and how boring that last piece of homework was! My aim is to mix the personal side of blogging with more articles about things that interest me, particularly in fashion but also art and culture and travel and food and… all my favourite things really!

Where are your favourite places to shop?

In my dreams? Selfridges on Oxford Street! I worked around the corner from there last summer and oh dear me, I spent many a lunch hour wandering around just gazing at all the beautiful clothes I couldn’t afford.

In reality though I am a Topshop and Dorothy Perkins addict.

What is your favourite piece of clothing?

Ooh probably this dress - http://whereisharriet.blogspot.com/2009/04/daily-outfit-april-4th-2009.html

I have a bit of a problem with stripy jersey dresses at the moment. I think I own five or six!

How would you define your personal style?

Ladylike with bite! I love looking prim and proper, but with an unexpected modern twist – think ball gowns and leather jackets, pussy bow blouses and studded belts, military detailing with beribboned knee socks!

What are your hobbies and how do you like to relax?

Does it sound bad if I say I like to pick fights?! Not really, I promise! I was captain of my martial arts club (I do a Japanese style of martial arts called Shorinji Kempo - http://www.bskf.org/index.php) this year and I really enjoy the mental and physical discipline it takes – if I have any worries or problems it’s a great way to take my mind off things for a couple of hours.

Other than that I (obviously) find blogging a great creative way to relax. I don’t consider myself a very creative person generally so it’s really nice to be able to write and feel like I’ve achieved something every time I hit submit on a post.

What is your favourite city, or where would you like to live/work and why?

I am moving back to London when I graduate this summer, which I am really looking forward to. I spent most of my childhood there and I really love it – there’s always new things to do and see. If not London I would probably most want to live in San Francisco. I travelled there last Christmas to stay with a friend who was living there for a year and I have to say I was really jealous of her! I think it combines the best things about America and Europe into one perfect city.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

People who manage to look elegant and put together all the time! Think Blair Waldorf in real life!

What are your plans for the future?

As I mentioned I’m moving to London next year to start a career in Finance (my first real grownup job!). I’ve loved my time at university to bits, but I’m excited about starting a new stage of my life.

I’m also planning on using this summer to revamp my blog (It’s in dire need of a layout other than the standard blogger template!) and I want to develop my vision and voice. Ok, that last bit sounded a bit pretentious, but truly, I still feel like I’m finding my feet in the blogosphere (and in life!), and trying to work out exactly what it is I want to say!

Check out her blog to find out more about her.

Guest Post: Leighton Meester Make-up Tutorial

I think Leighton Meester, who plays Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl, is incredibly gorgeous. Lydia of Glamazon shows us how to get Leighton's make-up look from the picture above, which is from InStyle magazine.

Step One: Start with a clean face!

Step Two: To get perfect skin like Leighton Meester's I put on some foundation and concealer.

Step 3: Trace the upper lashline with a thick, smudgy black or dark brown pencil (like ULTA's Kohl Eyeliner Pencil in Black/Brown)

Step 4: Dust translucent powder over the lids (try Physician's Formula Mineral Wear)

Step 5: In this picture it looks like Leighton barely has anything on her lips so I just used Snog Balm in naked on mine.

Step 6: Brush a powder shadow over the lid in a light brownish color, I used Sally Hansen by Carmindy Stone Pallette but only the medium color.

Step Seven: Put black eyeliner on the bottom lashline and wing it out, add mascara and youre done!

Thanks Lydia for that great tutorial!

Volunteering is the Energy

I made a list of things to do over summer and one of them was volunteering. This post is long overdue, but I've only just finished my exams so I have the time to write about my day. It really was a lot of fun. I was able to help my local community centre set up and run a May Day event.(That's me in the middle with some friends I'd made on the day. We got unlimited free food, thus the smile on my face!)

It really was a great day. We started by taking tables and chairs into the nearby park, where the event was initially meant to take place, but rain (typical) made the organisers immediately change their mind and move everything indoors, so we then had to move everything back inside.

After setting everything up, me and a few others helped to prepare food and set out little cakes and things. By that time people had started coming and we were left to serve people in the little cafe. Although it was hard work. The queue for the cafe was soo long and we barely had time to breathe. People were shouting orders left, right and centre (ok, maybe it was a bit more organised than that) and I hadn't done proper maths in 5 years, so I was a bit slow in giving change when someone gave me £20 for a £3.75 order (I wasn't the only one).

The hi-light of the day was probably the music. On our break, we went to see the bands perform. The community centre had about 20 different bands performing on the day. Some of them were little children and they were just so talented. One little girl, who wasn't more than 10, sany Taylor Swifts 'Teardrops on my Guitar' beautifully. There was one absolutely amazing band. They were a rock band and consisted of 6 fairly good looking guys (who were my age btw, before you get the wrong idea).
After they finished performing, they came to the cafe and stayed there for ages. We all got to hang with the band after and they were all pretty cool (and I'm sure they're were freaked out by my constant flirting).

In the above picture: you see the bunch of people in the background chilling, thats us volunteers (I'm the one leaning against the wall). As you can tell, we'd given ourselves a break from cleaning up. In our defence, we were very tired by this point and we were also chatting to members of the hot band.

But overall, the day was a huge success. I was on my feet for 7 hours and I honestly didn't feel that tired. To know that I was helping felt great and I was on such a high when I got home. I met some great people and got to hang out with a band of hot guys. What more could I want? I really had fun and would definitely recommend any one to volunteer. I am definitely going to do this again this summer. I've just finished uni, and need to find a job. Having volunteering on your CV is a huge advantage and it is something to do while I find a job.

Sherin xx

P.S. Did anyone else watch the Eurovision over the weekend? How amazing did Dita Von Teese look? (And how hot was the guy who won?) But Von Teese looked stunning as she danced away.

Fashion in Politics: Carla Bruni-Sarkozy

Next in the series of fashionable women in politics is Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, the current first lady of France. She is absolutely stunning and has amazing style. I definitely have a huge girl crush on her.

Although originally Italian, she has mastered the gorgeous French look perfectly. You can't deny she has style, and she's even been spotted wearing Dior shoes, specially made of course, and has been spotted in YSL and Chanel. Because of her height, she wears a lot of flats which look perfect on her. If she wore heels, there would be a huge height difference between her and husband, Nicholas Sarkozy, so its very clever of her to stick to flats. (BTW, is anyone else slightly attracted to him?)

On a recent trip to Britain, the country decided that we loved her. She's beautiful, very chic and has truely amazing style. She was an ex-model and the Guardian Newspaper even compared her to Jackie Kennedy, and it even said that she did the perfect curtsey to the Royal family, showing her incredible poise.

Her grey tailored outfits are really something, showing her as diplomatic as well as fashionable. And how gorgeous is that hat!? However, Carla doesn't really play with colour in clothes and prefers to play it safe with blues and greys. I think this works for her and her role as French First Lady and nothing she wears can be boring. By sticking to classic colours, she looks more sophisticated and more the part. But she does like her bolts of purple, which look amazing on her, especially her bright purple coat, paired with a grey suit.

'Love lasts a long time, but burning desire - two to three weeks.'
-Carla Bruni-Sarkozy

Let me know if there are any other women you'd like to see in this series of posts.

Sherin xx

P.S. The competition for our header is now CLOSED! Thank you to everyone for voting. The winner of the skirt will officially be announced tomorrow. Just to let you now, we're picking the winner by putting all names in a hat and picking one out at random. Good luck.
