Sunday Specials: 2/5/10

I just read about something that concerns those of us who wear lipstick: many lipstick brands, including Dior, Lancome, Clinique, YSL, Estee Lauder and Shiseido, are suspected to contain lead, which is a cancer-causing chemical. Apparently, lipsticks that are marketed to have longer staying-power are the ones that have the highest lead content. This is how to test whether or not your lipstick contains lead:
- put some lipstick on your hand
- use a gold ring to scratch on the lipstick
- if the lipstick color changes to black, the lipstick contains lead

We got an award from the lovely Glam Sam! Thank you!

♥ This award was passed on to us by our friend Tasha! Of all the people we've met in the blogisphere, Tasha is definitely one of the nicest!!

New Look is offering a 20% student discount till the 17th of May.

♥ Get 20% off at Motel Rocks using the code payday20.

Tampax Compak is providing free shipping for any purchase of Les Halles jeans till May 5th! More info here.

♥ Ashe Mischief wrote a really interesting article on Finance and the Fashion Blogger. It's definitely a worthwhile read, especially if you feel constantly pressured to buy new clothes. As a blogging community, we should be able to support each other instead of shying away from really important issues like credit card debt!

And heres a really interesting promotion. Website Catwalk Genius have just launched a crowd funded collection with designer Katie Eary. You can buy shares in the womenswear collection, which will fully be financed throw crowd funding. Katie Eary is best known for her bold and unique menswear lines, and will be launching her womenswear line as soon as all the shares are sold.
This is a great opportunity to support the designer and the brand and all investors will also receive a number of exclusive benefits, such as being the first to buy items from the collection when it's launched and meet the designer.
You can buy shares
here.

Have a nice weekend, everyone!

That's an interesting article... finance and fashion blogging. So real if we try to keep up with what's new all the time. So the best thing is to create a niche, don't mimic other's styles. Work the closet... give your clothes a new life.

Fashion blogging should be fun... it should not be the cause of financial downfall. We have to ask ourselves before we buy anything... will this piece of clothing still give me satisfaction even after I blogged about it?

Thanks for sharing that article. xoxo

Congratulations on the awards! ;)

I´m using Loreal at the moment, will try to check if it has lead. Regarding finance and fashion blogging, I believe that we can be stylish in our own ways without breaking the bank.To re-phrase what Karl L. said, don´t buy something that you can´t really afford. ;)

Congrats on the awards, ladies!

Yikes about the lead in lipstick. That's definitely something we need to be careful about. I just tested it with a Make Up For Ever lipstick... No lead.

I checked out that article after I saw Leia post it on Twitter. It's an interesting read. I can certainly understand the pressure to buy new clothes. Fortunately, I've never been in any kind of debt though.

Wow! That article is fierce. I have to admit...sometimes I can see where finances can mix with fashion blogging - and not in the best way. Though if you think of blogging as a job, I believe you can write certain things off as expenses. :)

Thanks for the info about the lead in lipstick, that is quite scary! Fashion blogs should be enjoyment and not to be caught up in money and spending, hopefully it is this way for most all bloggers! :)
