2 Perspectives

...written by Sherin

I was reading The Pixelated Blonde recently and she had linked to an article that was about fashion trends that women love, but men hate. You can read the original article here. I thought I'd share with you my personal opinion on the items on the list, and then get a guy's perspective on the items. Who knows, if we get good feedback from having a guys perspective, we mught turn it into a regular feature!! The fellow I'm getting to help me on this is my very good friend, Mo, and I owe him an ice cream for doing this!

Harem Pants:

Me: Lots of women do look great in them, but then again, lots of women can't pull it off either. I have seen a lot of fellow bloggers looking good in them, but so many people just look bad. I think this is one of those trends that only looks good if you're wearing them right.

Mo: "What the hell are you wearing?" That was my first thought when I saw these pants. I cant see the fashion sense or the hot look behind these pants. It looks weird and very uncool. Why would a girl want to wear that is beyond me.

Jumpsuits:

Me: See, I quite like these. I'm not a fan of the ones that are trousers, but I do like the ones with shorts. They seem really comfortable and I think that they look really cute. I'm currently on the hunt for one. (Tesco have a lovely one right now, and I'm waiting for it to come in stock in my size!!)

Mo: When I first saw the jump suit, I hated the fact it made a pretty girl look undesirable. Then I learnt that there are two kinds. The long jump suit is a complete turn off but the short jump suit is a turn on because legs are hot and with the short jump suit we can see hotness.

Me: Nope: not a fan. I'm sure they're comfortable, but I'm not a fan of how they look. They do make women appear shorter and with stubby legs. What I really don't like is them worn with sweats and I also don't think they need to be THAT expensive.

Mo: No. It's cute on little children not fully grown adults, thats just wrong.

Headbands:

Me: I quite like the big fancy ones that can be worn at weddings and occassions, and I like plain black ones that no one can tell when I'm wearing. Apart from that, I'm not a fan of them in everyday life. When I put things in my hair, I like them to be as discreet at possible.

Mo: Theres nothing right about these, fix your hair properly if you want to look good. Do not just throw something random on it and think it looks good.

Gladiator Sandals:

Me: I think they can look really really cute and are such a pretty summer shoe to have.

Mo: The after effect are horrendous but I must say when their on they make feet look good. Chubby feet look so much slimmer on a gladiator sandal. The tighter, the better and it does make feet look slimmer and sexier.

Leggings:

Me: I think I must be the only female who doesn't own a pair of them. Women often wear them as trousers, and I don't think it's a good look, especially when worn with really short tops. Lots of people also wear them as tights, and what I really want to say is: 'Wear tights instead'. I mean they are pretty pointless to wear as tights as the bottom few inches of your legs will still get cold.

Mo: Not every one can look good in them, but either way its not very desirable. For some too much cellulite is shown and that is a complete turn off; whilst others show everything in all the right places but where's the fun in that and the imagination. Thats why leggings are a turn off.

Tuxedos:

Me: Why a woman would wear one is beyond me. I'm not a fan of women in full suits anyway; when I wear work trousers, I'll pair them up with a feminine blouse, rather than the matching blazer. They're just so unflattering.

Mo: Men look great in a Tux, James Bond any one ? and as Matt Smith from Dr. Who keeps stating "Bow Ties Are Cool". So this fashion trend in women wearing the penguin suit is completely inappropriate. This must stop and yes it is not hot!

Dungarees:

Me: Eugh: I wore them as a child and I'll probably make my kids wear them as well, but I don't like them on adults. They just don't look good at all, unless you're like painting a house or something.

Mo: Unless you live in a farm, I do not see why there is a need to wear this unfashionable clothe. Most guys assume you must be a pregnant lady to wear a dungaree, especially the jeans ones.

Oversized Sunglasses:

Me: Not a fan. I have a small head so if I wore these, they would actually cover my whole face. I'm not a fan of really large bug eyed ones on other girls either: sunglasses do not need to be that big.

Mo: Unless you have a small head, these glasses tend to enlarge a girls head. Also there is a problem with not looking in to a girls eyes. The eyes are sexy so why hide them under those enormous sunglasses?

So there you have it: fashion trends from both a guys and girls view. What do you think about these items? And would you all like more 'guy's perspective' posts?

I like the idea of this feature :) I ADORE playsuits (I definitely prefer them to jumpsuits) and I do own a pair of harem trousers but I think it's all in how you wear them :)

Hahaha I love Mo's comments. You know what, I don't like all of the trends above, and my boyfriend definitely didn't, but after he saw me trying them he changed his mind. I think it's a case of making these trends work for you and having the confidence to pull them off, because what do men really know about women's fashion? Either that or my boyfriend was being too nice to me!

I like this guy's perspectives article. Maybe more for the humour!

Amazing post, this is such a good idea for a post and its really interesting to have a guys perspective on it. I must say that I actually agree with a lot of the guys perspectives but with the exception of head bands, I'm surprised that is on the list.

This is one of the best and funniest post you´ve ever written, Sherin!

I don´t go for jumpsuits nor dungarees because it´s such a hassle when you need to ¨p**¨. I think guys wanted to see the curves higlighted in a woman´s body. ;)

If this person could decide, the whole world population would be wearing harem pants!

Great post, I didn't read one this interesting in a long while.
I totally agree with Mo on harem pants and tuxedos, but not on leggings. And yes, Uggs are way too expensive.

It was fun to read, but after going out with a man for three years I know not to listen even a little bit when it comes to fashion. They just don'r get it. They like girls to loo hot and, well .. that's it. I mean, my boyfriend doesn't ask my opinion on his taste of music, comics or computers. So why should I do it? :D

AMAZING post! It made me laugh really hard and honestly, I agree with the guys opinion! Especially on the whole tights part; if your cellulite is showing through, don't wear it. Why would anyone want that look?

Nice post. See here's my thing. I don't dress to please men because if I did I'd be semi anorexic to get a flat stomach, wearing huge push up bras daily, and be clad in short shorts and tight tank tops my whole life. At this rate fashion, in its art from, is not to please men but to please myself, and if I like it whether he does or not than it's staying!

Great post, Sherin! I absolutely love headbands, gladiator sandals, leggings (worn with something long enough to cover your butt, of course!), and oversized sunglasses (even if I do look like a bug). :)

I think harem pants look good on some people, but it's definitely not something I could pull off. And I hate Uggs. They're so unflattering!

This is such a great post! I love Mo's take on things!

With you 100% on uggs and leggings, but I think Tuxeudos can look amazing on women if done right. Google Marlene Dietrich, I promise you it will make you change your mind!

Oh lord! I think men don't know what they want sometimes. They want a well dressed lady but she can't be dumpy or slutty or too trendy. AHHH see, this is why i dress for women hehe

My take:
Harem Pants= Like you said, very few girls can pull them off and it's not even particularly about your body. It's just what you wear it with, the right occasion, etc. But I'm personally not the biggest fan.
They just look like glorified jams to me.

Jumpsuits: Yep, like you, I like playsuits but not jumpsuits. There are always exceptions though, Tyra Banks, Eva Longoria and Claudia S have all been seen looking fantastic in jumpsuits so I guess it kind of depends on the print, fabric, etc. to a certain extent and how you accessorize it.

Uggs: EW. not outside your house.

Headbands: Too preppy. Like to em' on Blair but can't imagine myself traipzing around with these things blooming from my head. Of course, the Marc Jacobs pink bow was fucking rad and there are always exceptions and I love a fascinator at a wedding.

Gladiator sandals: mixed feelings. The above the ankle kind shouldn't be worn by anyone under 5 feet 6 inches because it makes you look stumpy.

Leggings= LOVE. Big advocate.

Tuxedos: Sorry. Lovelovelove as well. They're so androgynous chic.

Dungarees: The shorts kind can look cute if you have nice legs. I've worn them plenty of times to bike with a boy or something..

Oversize sunglasses: As you can see, I own about 5 pairs so I heart this trend.

V. interesting post! xx

I'm sort of used to guys negative perspective towards certain fashion trends..so i'm not that surprise at all! I guess some guys are more laid back and would prefer girls to dress simple, pretty, elegant yet show a bit of skin and not make too much of a fashion statement *yawn*
well I say where's the fun in that :)
great post though!

Oh yes, I know how much guys hate Ugg boots and headbands.I didn't know about the others though... What's up with that? Do they have the impression that our ultimate goal in life is to look good for them? Newsflash, we dress for ourselves and I don't like it when they express their opinion when I didn't ask for it. Sorry about the outburst but it really gets on my nerves :))

This was such a fun post!!! Your friend is right! all men I know think that way... I think men wants us to look very feminin, sexy and that we show some skin... they have a different point of view about fashion for girls... I really don't like harem pants either or tux in women... have a nice day Sherin!!!

It's so true that some things that girls love guys just don't get. Truth is I think a lot of our dressing up and make-up is for other ladies not the guys. In my experience guys want the least muss and fuss possible, they like natural while girls tend to like the more dramatic.
