Jimmy Choo

...written by Sherin

Last week, I was lucky enough to go to the Jimmy Choo store, in Sloane Street, to check out their new Trainers range. For the last few weeks Jimmy Choo have been doing a campaign, where they tweet and foursquare where they are in the city and you have to run and find them, and if you do, you win an exclusive pair of their new trainers. It was hard as they were only in a place for a short time, but someone eventually caught up with them and won a pair, and this was an event to say thank you to everyone who took part.

I'm a huge sneakers fan and quite liked the new trainers. I know trainers aren't what you think of when you think 'Jimmy Choo', but these definitely fit in well with the rest of the store.
They're made from a combination of patent leathert, suede and exotic snake skin. These trainers are definitely perfect for a low key day.

My favourite ones are definitely these hi-tops. I can see myself looking very chic, while running around and doing errands. I can't really afford them yet...but fingers crossed that one day, these babies will be mine.
The soles of the shoes looked really cool as well. Sorry for the bluriness of the picture: I took loads and this was the best one.

As the store was closed off for us, we were also given the chance to explore the rest of the store and mingle in the beauty of all the shoes, while eating delicious cupcakes. I managed to catch up with Jenny from The Style PA and she was lovely to talk to.

Here are some of my favourites from the store:

What do you think of the collection??

Sunday Specials: 30/05/2010

Firstly, something that is completely unrelated to fashion, but still close to our hearts:

Our friend (who also happens to be the coolest person ever) has just started working for a charity, The Winchester Project. She'll be working on loads of events and some of them seem really cool (concert, fashion show). The first event is a 7 day cycle tour of the French Alps which her collegue is doing, starting on the 11th June.
He has a JustGiving page here, where you can donate, and this closes on the 30th June.
The money will go to helping children and young people a different direction in life. The Winch is a place where they can attend and be safe and creative. Contributions will go to a minibus, which will help less advantaged kids travel to The Winch and participate in it's projects. A key aim of the charity is to offer sports and activities to youths that have offended in the past and help them turn their lives around.
There are other ways to help support the charity as well. One is, when shopping online, a percentage of the sale will go to the charity. Check it out here. The other is a search engine that raises money wile you use it.

We will be doing and helping with a lot of the projects at The Winch, so keep you eyes open!

Also, Triumph (a lingerie brand) will be hosting their annual Inspiration Award early next month and are taking in votes from the 4th June. This is a competition which challenged students from international design schools to create a showpiece set. You can vote here and the last day to vote in 10th June.

Here are some of our favourite sketches from the contestants:

Hope you all have a fabulous Sunday and happy Bank Holiday Monday to all of you who have tomorrow off!

All about the Shoes!

...written by Sherin

My outift is nothing special, but I had to take a picture because of the awesome shoes. I wore this outfit to a Jimmy Choo preview (will be blogged about on Monday), so thought that I'd make an extra effort when it came to shoes.

My dress is from Camden Market and my top is Dorothy Perkins. My shoes are from a store called Priceless and were only £17!!! They did look so amazing. I've never owned real statement shoes before, so I loved walking around in these.

New Blog!

...written by Leia

For quite some time now, I've been thinking of starting another blog. I love writing here at HiFashion and it's so much fun blogging with Sherin - and I don't plan to stop any time soon! - but I wanted to start a blog that would be a bit more personal. I'll still blog here every so often, but if you want to check out my new blog, head over to Leia's Delights. At the moment I'm still tweaking it, but more outfits, make-up, recipes, books, and music will be coming very soon. I'm feeling a bit lonely over there so come and say hi!

I also just want to say thank you to the lovely Dena - she and I met for lunch last week and it was her advice that pushed me to get started on this new project. And a huge thank you as well to A, for being the most patient/efficient/amazing/talented site designer anyone could ever ask for. Head over to her design site if you like her work!

I'll be back on Saturday with the Polaroid sunglasses winner and vlog; see you then!

Tara Lacey

...written by Sherin

We do love going to Press Days. The atmosphere is always so great and it's always fun to meet other people and have one-on-ones with designers etc. Last week, we went to the Tara Lacey Press Day, which was for SS10 and AW10. For those of you who don't know, Tara Lacey is an online boutique that specialises in luxury brands for women, from all over the world. The site focuses more on quality than household 'designer names'. The site has a lot of 'hard to find' pieces, as well as many exclusives from designers such as Olivia Rubin.

Here are some of our favourites from SS10:

These shorts are from the brand Nocturne. I really loved them a lot. They look so perfect for summer.

A fringe shawl: so perfect for a night out, again from Noctune.

Bllack Noir was really a label that stood out for me. This was a lovely sequin top. The whole of the Bllack Noir collection is truely fantastic.

Olivia Rubin has such bright and beautiful dresses. The pinks were so bold!

And this is Tara Cowland, founder of Tara Lacey, modelling a piece from Gina Bacconi:

There were also some really cool accessories. A lot of the jewellery was very statement, such as these cuffs from Fiona Paxman:

The bags seemed so perfect for festivals, with all the fringe. They're from the brand 'Sam Ubhi'.

This was a really unique piece. They are shoulder embellishments. You're supposed to put them on plan t-shirts, or dresses and it instantly brightens up your outfit.

I, personally, fell in love with the building the Press Day was held in. I am in love with old Georgian style houses, and was delighted with this one. We even got a small tour of the building as well.
Everything from SS10 is online now!

Vlog
As some of you know, I've been thinking of filming a vlog but I have had no idea what to talk about. Thanks to suggestions from Claire, Florrie, and the Frills n Spills girls, I've decided to answer some questions that I've had from readers. So I'll choose some questions to answer from my Formspring and you can ask me anything either here or on Twitter. And I'll film a vlog to share with you in a few days, probably by Saturday (eek!) So ask away and I'll compile a list and film a vlog!

Guest Post
As you may know, Sherin is now a regular political columnist on The Ceiling Blog. I will sometimes be contributing to the Culture section, and I have just written my first post: Summer Reading List. Check it out if you're looking for some good books to read this summer!

Giveaway
Lots of you have commented on my Polaroid sunglasses (seen in the picture above). Well, one lucky UK reader will win a pair of Polaroid sunglasses! This pretty Pall Mall pair could be yours:

All you have to do is: tell us where you would wear these sunglasses if you won them and what outfit you would be wearing! Leave your answer in the comments below and we will randomly pick a winner on Saturday, May 29th. Sorry, but this giveaway is only open to UK residents!

It's finally warm!

...written by Sherin

I wore the following dress to the Tesco AW 2010 Preview. I seems that Summer has finally hit us and I'm really happy about it. It was a beautiful day and the dress was so adorable. It was sent over by Motel Rocks and fitted really well.

My only concern was that it's a dress clearly aimed at those with 'assests', which I don't have. I had to wear a white T underneath as the dress was strapless and kept falling down at the front. I was so happy that the dress still managed to look great despite the T. My favourite thing about the dress is definitely how full and 50's style it is at the bottom!
My shoes are Barratts. It's weird: these are probably the only flats that I own and wear (my only other pair are covered in dust). I'm more of a heels or Converses/Vans girl, so don't wear flats that often, despite knowing that they are staples in nearly every girls wardrobe.

P.S. Tomorrow is the last day of our giveaway!

Sunday Specials: 23/05/2010

Hope you're all having a wonderful Sunday; we're definitely enjoying the sun this weekend! We have loads to tell you about today:

Apart from fashion, Sherin does another huge passion: Music. For me, very few things compare to discovering an amazing band, and then listening to their back catalogue on Spotify. We were contacted about this great girl band: 'The Like". I'm usually not a very big fan of girl groups, but they are something else. They've got a great 60's vibe to them and look so cool. Check back soon as we'll be doing an exclusive interview with them.

Here's a short video they did. It's directed by Gia Coppola and is features the 'Zac Posen for Target' Collection. Check it out and let us know what you think about the band.

A few weeks ago, we gave you a sneak peek at the 10th Anniversary Bulgari ring and now, the B.Zero1 has launched it's new website.
The new ring is designed by Anish Kapoor, who is known as one of teh owrld's most influential sculptors. He has been chosen to reinterpret the iconic B.zero1 ring, which was initally launched in 2000. The rings have come a long way in the last 10 years; they were initially Gold, but now, they are more inventive with multibands and diamonds.

Here are some sneak peeks at these gorgeous new rings: The main body of the ring comes in either black or white ceramic.

We also found about a very cool bag company: Jess Rizzuti. The brand has just launched it's SS10 collection and it is NICE. Jess Rizzuti ultimately focuses on very unique, yet timeless pieces, which are both classic and contemporary. The bags are from the finest leather and have amazing prints. Here are some that I'm loving from SS10:

Finally, My-Wardrobe are launching their Denim Bar. The Denim Bar will show you how to make jeans work for you and will include brands such as 7 For All Mankind and the Vivienne Westwood/Lee Jeans collaboration. There will also be videos and tips on how to wear each style.
There will be a Denim Bar Pop Up Shop on the 27th-28th May on Carnaby Street, and shoppers will be able to have a look at SS10 menswear jeans.
There will be a launch party on the 26th May and Londoners can win the opportunity to attend through a Urban Denim Dash. My Wardrobe will be distributing clues about 5 secret locations around the city via Facebook and Twitter. The clues will be distributed on Monday and the Dash will officially start on the 25th (Tuesday) at midday and will go on until 3pm.

Also, don't forget to enter our giveaway.

Pastel Cupcake

...written by Leia

My obsession with all things pastel has by no means subsided. Case in point: this dress I just bought -

IMG_1353

I've been trying to embrace the mixed prints trend, although it's really difficult to pull off! I thought I'd ease into it by choosing a simple color palette and opting for subtle patterns...

If you want to try this trend but don't know how to get started, I recommend Lauren's great guide on how to mix prints; read it here.

I felt as though I looked like a giant cupcake!

Wearing: Oasis striped ruffle dress;
New Look polka dot tights

Would you wear mixed prints?

Tesco AW 2010 (Photo Heavy)

...written by Sherin

It seemed a bit ironic that I was off to Tesco's AW 2010 Preview the same day that the sun shone for the first time. But, everything was so cool, that I actually want it to be Autumn now, so that I can buy and wear some of the pieces. Here are some of my favourites from what I saw:

And here are things that I will definitely be buying once they come out:

(I've already come up with things to wear with the dress below!)I love shoes and I love lace...so when the 2 are put together, it's perfection:
The Children's clothes were so adorable! there was a little leather jacket there and I saw a mini aviator style jacket that I'm tempted to buy now, and then keep safe until I have children (a long time from now!)

Menswear looked really cool as well. I was definitely loving the colours and cool prints on the t-shirts. I'm tempted to hire a guy to be my bf, just so I can dress him!

There was also a fashion show that really showcased some of the clothes. The pictures aren't the best as I realised that it isn't easy taking pictures of models on the catwalk.

I am always so impressed with the clothes when I'm at Tesco Clothing events. Tesco still aren't recognised for designing and selling clothes, so people are always really surprised at how great my clothes from their are. My expectations were higher because I'd previously been to the launch of F&F Couture, and this definitely did not disappoint! Everything is so wearable and I still can't believe how affordable the whole range is. Tesco Clothing is still a lot cheaper than the likes of Topshop and even rivals H&M when it comes to pricing. It's all very fashion forward as well! I loved all the lace and leather that I saw, and was loving the fashion show!

Sherin xx

I have a bunch more pictures up on Flickr, so check them out here. There are some pretty great clothes there, so definitely look at these pictures.
