Just another day in London

You might remember that I recently met up with Susie of TakeOut In Couture and we had a wonderful time wondering around London. Well on Friday, we met up again and had another fantastic day!
We started off at the Barbican Centre for a really cool exhibition. It was celebrating 30 years of Japanese Fashion and was incredible. We weren't allowed to take pictures, butit was definitley a lot of fun. Some of the clothes were so unique and really left us breathless. The exhibition is running until the 6th February, so definitely get along down there if you can. There's more informtion here.

We then headed off for an amazing, yet filling lunch at Tinseltown. Tinseltown is a milkshake place in an American Diner style. They do milkshakes of all flavours and they're all delicious. I chose a 'Wunder Kind', which was a Kinder Bueno milkshake, with whipped cream on top, chocolate grated on top and a flake. It was pure heaven!

We then walked around the local area for a while, but it really was blistering cold!! But since we are bloggers, we did get a lot of photo's while out and about.

Covent Garden was out next stop and we had tons of fun there. There was a guy singing Italian Opera and we went into a few stores. Joy had some great and unique, if slightly creepy, things in their gift area and we saw this really scary eye mask.

We also came across the most adorable little toy store ever. It was small but had some amazingly cute and vintage toys, such as doll houses, puppet theatres and all types of puppets.

Susie bought this really cute pirate puppet, who is now named 'Rufolpho'.

To top off the day, we met a gold painted man, pretending to be a statue. Him and Susie got friendly really quickly, hehe.

I absolutely love walking around London. It's such a great city. There is always something going on and it's lovely to wander around aimlessly.

La Senza's Swimwear Collection

Firstly, a huge thanks for all the comments on the cape. I felt a tad uncomfortable in it, but you were all so nice that I've decided to give the cape another chance and will wear it out and about a bit more.

On Thursday evening, I went down to the glamourous and gorgeous Haymarket Hotel to see La Senza launch their SS 2011 swimwear line, and I was really impressed.
The event was held in the Hotel's swimming pool area and it looked great. There were models walking around the pool, modelling the line, and the different collections were spread around the pool.

Photobucket

It was a really fun evening and La Senza have done a great job on the Swimewear line. I also managed to meet the very lovely Vicky, who runs the La Senza Blog. She was amazing to talk to. The collections were gorgeous. I don't want to give to much away about the collection, so all I'm saying is that there will be a lot of stylish women swimming this summer! I'm a huge swimming fan over the summer and I can see myself in so much of the collection. There is an amazing 50's style collection, that gives you a lot of support around the bust, and looks like it fits so beautifully. There are strapless pieces in the collection as well as pieces with Triple Gel, which is a push up bikini.

There was a lot of really cool patterns and some great prints on some of the bikini's. Expect a lot of polka dots and even a few nautical ones. Seriously, we are all in for a treat with bikini's this year.

To top it all off, La Senza also organised an amazing synchronised swimming routine, featuring The Aquabatix Girls. It was a spectacular show. I've always love synchronised swimming, so seeing it so up close was amazing. The girls were so talented and their make up didn't smudge a bit!

Are you all swimming fans? What do you normally wear to the beach/pool? I'm a tankini person, but am really tempted by the La Senza bikini's.

Love Story: A Review

Earlier this week, I went to the Duchess Theatre, in Covent Garden, to see a play called 'Love Story'. I've been a fan of the Theatre ever since I was about 10, when my aunts took me to see Dick Whittington.
For me, there's something extra special about seeing a play, especially in London's West End and I have tried to catch as many plays as I can. All the the actors are right in front of you and you can see the set change, not to mention there is always a lot of added emotion as seeing a play is so much more personal and real than seeing a movie.

Photobucket
I took my friend along and it was our first time at Duchess Theatre. It's a small, intimate theatre and we had really great seats, so absolutely loved it.
The play itself was beautiful. It was a musical, and so well produced and reall well acted. Love Story is based on a book, by Erich Segal, which was later made into a movie, and is said to be one of the most romantic films of all time.
It's set in New York, during the 1960's and is the story about love (thus the name) between two really different people. Oliver Barratt IV, played by Michael Xavier, is a preppy, rich guy, who goes to Harvard and is a hockey player. Jenny Cavilleri, played by the very talented Emma Williams, is the complete opposite: she's poor, goes to Radcliffe and loves playing music. Their paths cross and they fall in love.

Photobucket

The play was brilliant, to say the least. It was well acted, the singing was fantastic and the set was beautiful. There was an orchestra at the back of the stage at all times, playing at various times, which added to the great atmosphere. It was a very small cast on stage, and the chemistry on stage between Emma and Michael was beautiful and they were both great actors. Michael was also very attractive, and you do get lucky enough to see him without a shirt for one of the scenes.

Photobucket

The play starts off light hearted, and there were quite a few laugh-out-loud moments, followed by some quite passionate scenes. It's a really sweet story at the beginning and you do fall in love with both main characters. But the story quickly takes a sad turn and left me in tears for the last half hour, and looking around me, everyone else had tear stained faces as well. I like to think that I have composure while out in public, but I couldn't control myself. I'm obviously not going to ruin it for those of you who don't know the story, but I really couldn't help myself at the end: the tears kept coming out. The acting was so good and the story was so beautiful that it's hard not to be touched by it.

Photobucket

My favourite love story has always been The Notebook, but I think this one trumps it by far. I'm definitely going to be picking up the book and will be recommending the play to everyone I meet. If you like a good love story, definitley go and watch this. It will seriously go straight to your heart. And don't forget to take tissues!

Take 10 Challenge 7: ASOS Cape

One of the best things about the Take 10 project is that I get to try trends that I don't really have the nerve to wear. Two such trends are the camel and the trends. The Take 10 sponsor this month was ASOS who offered to send us a coat and we decided on a camel cape, so it was me trying two trends that I wanted to.

Unfortunately, I realised that neither the camel trend, nor the cape trend are not for me. Nothing I did made the cape look good on me and I felt kinda frumpy in it :S The other girls wore the cape so amazingly but unfortunately, I can't see myself wearing this cape again, and am predicting a future of it collecting dust in my cupboard, which is such a shame.
Not to say it's not a good cape though. It is stylish, just not my style and it did keep me warm while I was out and about.

Here's how everyone else wore it:

Photobucket

Check out how all the other girls wore theirs:

Jen from A Little Bird Told Me
MJ from Dreaming Spires & Old Car Tyres
Sherin from HiFashion
Jazmine from Jazzabelle's Diary
Vicki from Magpie Girl
Adele from Molto Curiosa
Paula of Pinkbow
Ellie of Pretty Much Penniless
Sabine from Psynopsis
Sarah from We Shop Therefore We Are

How would you have worn this and what do you think of everyone's styling?

Sky Outfit

I was supposed to be at the Asian Bridal Show this weekend, but unfortunately didn't have my car, and none of the tube lines were going through the stations, so sadly had to give it a miss :(
Here's an an outfit post though: This is the dress I wore to the Sky Screening that I went to last week.

Photobucket

If I'm honest, this is probably my most favouritest dress ever!! I love the colour, the style, the sleeves, the lace...just everything about it is perfect. I bought it during the sales from Very (£15) and it's part of Fearne Cotton's line. I'm not usually a fan of celebrity lines, but Fearne Cotton's one is pretty amazing. It's full of gorgeous dresses and some pretty cool pieces. I should mention that I really love Fearne Cotton. She's one of my style icons and role models.

Photobucket
The dress is really well made and so soft and comfortable. My only issue was that it was a bit loose around the bust area, but that was quickly fixed with a safety pin. I will defnitley be buying from this range again...when I have a job and money to spend.
I paired the dress with my shoes from Priceless.

I also really liked my ring, which I bought from the Miss Selfridge sale. I'm loving statement rings right now and so I had to have it!

Photobucket

What do you think of the dress and ring?

P.S. I did actually buy the dress myself; it wasn't sent to me. I just really love everything about it.

P.P.S. Also, Style Clone, who focus on Celebrity Style Tips, featured me and have re-created on of my favourite looks. Check it out here.

P.P.P.S. Fellow blogger B featured me in her'Inside The Closet' secction. If yo've ever wanted to know more about my closet, check it out here

Sky Atlantic Launch

On Tuesday I was invited to a screening to launch Sky's new channel, Sky Atlantic. The new channel will be launching in the UK on 1st Febuary to all Sky customers and will be a UK HBO. Shows will include the eagerly anticipated 'Boardwalk Empire' and 'Game of Thrones', as well as the new season of Mad Men.
In my unemployed state, I'm watching all the TV I can handle, so I'm very happy that Sky are having a new channel, and I can't wait to start watching all the new shows.

Photobucket

The invitation was amazing, to say the least. I was sent a Vogue from the 60's (which I'll be posting about soon) and a Telegram, inviting me to the event. The telegram fit in really well as the event would be us watching the first two episodes of 'Boardwalk Empire', which is a drama set in the 1920's.

We met for drinks beforehand at a bar in Leicester Square and it was nice to socialise with other blogger and it was great seeing the girls from Spreading Jam walking around in 1920's head dresses. And it was great catching up with fellow bloggers, such as Jenny, Jill and Carrie.

Photobucket

PhotobucketPhotobucket

We wandered over to the Empire Cinema and we were greeted by gorgeous girls dresses as 1920's flappers. After the 60's, my favourite fashion era is the 20's. I love the whole flapper look and think it looks amazing, so was really excited when I saw them.

Photobucket

We gathered into the cinema and took our seats, which had a goody bag filled with food. There was popcorn, sweets and lemonade. Perfect cinema food! There was also '20's style music at the front as we were walking through.

Photobucket

The screening started and we were given the first 2 episodes of 'Boardwalk Empire' to watch and I really liked it. Since Lost ended, I've been looking for a new show to become completely obsessed with. There are some great shows out there, but nothing really stands out, and 'Boardwalk Empire' was fantastic. It's a smart show, with some great writing and acting, and I can see myself becoming completely obsessed with it. It's set in the 1920's, during the prohibition and it captures that era really well. There are some great costumes in the show and the set is really well made too.
Anyway, my point is that it's a show worth watching.

White Lies Live (Photo Heavy)

On Monday I went to see White Lies perform at HMV on Oxford Street. They did a small set, and signed copies of their new album, Ritual, which was also released on Monday. For those of you who don't know about White Lies, chances are, if you're in England, you would have heard 'Bigger Than Us': it is seriously on everywhere.

They released their debut album in 2009, called 'To Lose My Life' and it is an amazing album. I remember listening to it non-stop and even now, I still like to listen to it on repeat. It's full of some absolute classic songs (Farewell To The Fairground and From The Stars are my personal favourites) and it's such a pleasure to listen to.

Photobucket
Photobucket

After a 2 year wait, White Lies released their second album and did a launch at HMV, with a set and signing session. As it wasn't a ticket event, it really was first come first serve. I tried to get there as early as I could (2 1/2 hours early), and was near the front, and about 20 minutes before they were due to come on, I looked behind me and the whole store was absolutely packed. There were a good couple of hundred people, if not more, packed into HMV.

Photobucket
Photobucket

I've heard amazing things about White Lies live and they really lived upto all my expectations. They came on and did a few song from their new album. As the album had only been released that day, it was my first proper hearing of it, and they were pretty incredible. White Lies were really good live: I was seriously impressed. I wish I could describe how amazing they were live, but I don't think words could do the performance justice. They clearly loved every second of being on stage as there were huge smiles when we cheered, and endless 'Thank you so much' after each song. They had a fantastic atmosphere and Harry, the lead singer, had so much emotion in his voice and face. He has such a stand out voice, that you could never get sick of it.

White Lies then went on to play one of their classics from their first album, 'Death' and then the title track from the new album 'Bigger Than Us'. As these were songs that the crowd were more familiar with, it really got everyone going. Everyone was singing along, and you could tell that the band loved every minute of it. They looked like they were having so much fun up on stage, which is something that I love in a band.

Photobucket

After the set, we were all able to get our albums signed. I have to admit that HMV's Security Team did a fantastic job. There were 100's of people there, wanting to get their album signed, and security were calm and friendly. They sorted everyone out really well and it seemed that everyone got their albums signed really quickly.
It was amazing to meet them: they seem like such nice guys, and the signed album is my new prized possession.
Photobucket
Photobucket

I listened to the album non-stop yesterday (and am listening to it as I type) and it's amazing. Every song is so well sung, and it's a really beautiful record. I don't know it as well as I'd like yet, so hopefully a few more back to back listens should give me more opinions on it. There are some really amazing lyrics on the album and some really well played music from Jack, the drummer, and Charles, the bassist.
Anyway, so far, it's a brilliant album. I recommend a listen to this album, and to the first one, if you haven't already. You will not be dissappointed.

Photobucket

What are all of you listening to?

P.S. Thanks to HMV for a few of the pictures.

A Casual Friday

I actually really like this outfit. I had quite a fun time picking it out and putting it all together. I guess I've never been really really creative with my outfits, so it was good to hang out in something slightly different.

I wore this while hanging around on Friday, doing odd bits and bobs. I quite liked how I paired a sophisticated skirt with a more fun t-shirt.

Photobucket

Photobucket

I'm wearing a Tesco skirt, H&M t-shirt and my trusted Vans. I bought the skirt with a Tesco voucher and I think I made a good decision. Although I had totake the hem up a bit, I think it's a piece that will go well for both work and more social events.

Photobucket

Umm...I don't have actually have anything else to say (it's been a quiet few days). Let me know what you've all been up.
