Book Review: Contemporary Fashion Stylists

After two weeks of lounging around and relaxing, we're finally back to some kind of normality. I'd actually lost all concept of days, spent a lot of time in my onsie and got a good 10 hours sleep every night - I was the very definition of lazy this holiday break. But I'm back to work today and so need to all organised again.

One thing I did manage a lot of this holiday season was reading - it's my favourite hobby and for most of last year, most of my reading was done on trains and buses. I forgot how relaxing it can be to unwind at the end of the day with a good book and hope to get more reading done in 2013 too.

I, once again, managed to pick up a Fashion based coffee book and had so much fun reading, learning and flicking through all the lovely pictures. I've been reading Contemporary Fashion Stylists, by Luanne McLean and it's a wonderful book about on of the most important people in the fashion industry - stylists. The book is a great introduction to what a stylist actually does, from styling the likes of musicians, actors and even politicians, to putting together some amazing editorials.

I loved the What is a Stylist introduction and learnt a lot about what they do and how they go about it, especially with a brief history of it too. It discussed the importance image always had and I learnt a few interesting tidbits, such as women in Napoleon's Court weren't allowed to wear the same clothes more than once. The book also bought into light some top name stylists who've worked closely with celebrities to make sure they always look good, showing just how important they are to create an image, whether for a person or a brand.

As a stylist herself, McLean really knows what she's talking about. She did a great job giving an example of a styling job she had, and showed all the steps she took to put together the shoot, as well as tips and information you need if you want to be a stylist yourself.
My favourite part was the profiles on some key designers. It was interesting to learn about some of the more well known names in the industry and see all the amazing work they've done. There are interviews advice from a lot of stylists, as well as stories on how they got involved and a bit about their work.

This is a great fashion book to have in the house, especially if you're planning a career in styling. There are some great tips from top stylists as well as information on the industry.

There is also a great sale going on at DotComGiftShop. I love that online store. They have some really amazing bits and pieces, that are great for the house and also make great little gifts. I definitely recommend checking out the sale - it has some great pieces.

Reading is one of my favorite things, as well! This book sounds divine; and would even look beautiful as a coffee table tome. Gorgeous! :)

I think we had the same Christmas and New Year - getting loads of sleep, losing track of what day it is and getting loads and loads of reading done! My classes don't start until Monday, but today is my last 'real' holiday day and I'm living it to the fullest - my roommates are back on Friday so I need to give the kitchen a deep clean tomorrow, and clean the bathroom on Friday morning before they return!

Oh man, you've reminded me that I have some books on my bookshelf that I haven't even read yet!! The holidays were kind of weird, feels like a long time off but very short all at the same time!

Oh sounds like a great book! I sadly did NO reading over the break. I brought a book to Cali with me and didn't read a single page #fail I have some time before classes start at the end of the month so hopefully I will get some reading done before then because all my other reading is going to be dedicated to grad school
