Ballet with Sweaty Betty

A few months ago, I was a lazy couch potato. I decided to join the gym and as it was so expensive, I've had to drag myself out of bed in the mornings to make pre-work gym sessions just so the money doesn't go to waste. I've been doing this for about 2 months now and am slowly getting into a routine, so when Sweaty Betty invited me to a ballet class, I knew I had to go.

Now, coordination isn't one of my strong points, which is why I've avoided dance in the past - did I tell you about the time I went salsa dancing and tripped over my own feet in front of a very attractive lead singer of a local band? So I was a bit scared to start the class. It was hosted by the amazing girls at Sleek Technique and they were fabulous teachers.

This was part of the Sweaty Betty Get Fit 4 Free Ballet Bootcamp. The aim of this project is to empower women through fitness with a month long campaign. Classes will be held throughout February and September, across Sweaty Betty stores. The classes will also be posted online, just in case you can't make it in store.

Victoria and Flik from Sleek Technique were incredible. They had lean bodies, which I would kill for, and were just so in shape and had a smile on throughout the workout. While all of us were sweaty messes by the end, the two ladies looked fabulous. They clearly knew what they were doing and did a great job teaching us the basics of ballet. Although, I was very sore the next day. I had no idea ballet was so heavily cardio focused. I would love to be at that point where I can do some of the moves with no difficulty. I essentially want to be as lean and flexible as the girl below.

Be sure to check Sweaty Betty for information about the Ballet Bootcamp sessions. And here's a post session sweaty selfie:

Such an awesome campaign! Ballet is one of the main ways that I stay in shape - I love the way it makes your body feel so alive. I also do various forms of cardio-based dance - always a fun workout!!

This looks seriously fun, I need to get myself along to more classes this year - it's always worth it when I do drag myself out of bed for it!

Ballet really is deceptively difficult - but it's always fun to try a new workout, even if you only do it once! There are sadly no gyms anywhere near where I live, so for exercise I stick with yoga in my living room. And walking. Lots of walking :)
