How to dress in red this season

red head to toe

It’s been a long time since red lipstick has gained classic status. Therefore having red back as an individual trend this season is like having lipstick for your style. A trend that immediately brightens everything up, and there’s a shade for every complexion on earth. Here’s how to wear red like it’s your only business this Autumn Winter.

Head to toe red

I’m not kidding when I say red is THE color of the season. The biggest proof of that is the head-to-toe trend. We’re dousing ourselves in the color until we’re dripping with it all over. Confidence is the foremost requirement for this look. Pick a solid red dress and pair it with more red in the form of shoes and accessories and other layers of clothing. So if you have a red sheath dress, consider wearing a red coat over it and finish with red boots. Or simply wear your red outfit with red lips to really intensify the color statement.

Red Accent

Red, by virtue of its bold and bright nature, works beautifully as an accent color, so if head-to-toe red isn’t really your “jam” (sorry, I had to do it), pick a more sensible option instead. Use one piece of red clothing and pair it with another solid color –color blocking with red is really the next best thing you can do with this color –or simply add dollops of red to your outfit via shoes and accessories. Make sure the other color you pick is either a nice complementary color or a stark contrast because the red has to come through as an accent, and not get watered down.

Red outerwear

There is no perfect way I could tell you just how huge red is for outerwear this season. Sure, there is always going to be that group of neutrals-for-outerwear loyalists, but the major chunk of the fashion brigade has already shifted base to don the red coats, overcoats and even vinyl puffy jackets and parkas this Autumn. It’s like getting dressy even without trying at all. Pale skin in the morning? No time for makeup? No problem! Just get your red coat on!

Red boots!

From the huge to the even huger! If there’s one absolutely easy way to wear red this season and make a big impact, it is this. Red boots, preferably thigh high. There are variations in style too. You could opt for the outrageously popular sock boots that fit snugly on to your legs, no matter what your size. Or you could pick the ones with transparent heels that add a little extra to this Autumn Winter trend. For the fancier lot, there’s the embroidered boots that you could choose, or take your pick from a wide range of velvet to patent leather.

Play with shades of red

red

Red isn’t just red y’know, and some fashionistas take serious offense if you call both crimson and scarlet as red. As with other colors of the rainbow, red comes in an assortment of shades that can be chosen to accurately reflect your mood or personality or both. So if you’re the shy type, you’re most likely gonna be more comfortable in a softer shade of red, like rose or blush. While those who wear blood red often are definitely the more daring types. Or maybe you choose to wear the more intense berry shades on days you feel pensive.
