As the summer heat engulfs us, our clothes change styles. We shed the jackets and boots for dresses and sandals. As all of us flock to the internet to research the “trendy looks of the season,” we look for tips to overhaul our closet. Look no further, here is a summary of all the latest upcoming trends.
First off, take note that this summer is poised to be full of exuberance and wily fashion styles. This roughly translates to the two hottest trends: floral prints and statement stripes, according to the fashion experts. But, more on that later. What about the street styles?
Summer Street Styles
A great way to gauge upcoming street styles is to look at what attendees wore at music festivals like Coachella. The crop-top featured prominently paired with distressed jean shorts or skirts. This style has also been adopted by high-street fashion houses by way of matching crop-top and midi-skirt combo outfits.
Social media can also dictate street styles, and in recent months the tank-top over t-shirt look was the “it” look of the moment. Thus, if you want to blend in with what those social media influencer fashionistas are wearing, adopt this style.
Because of the good weather, summer dictates that all your outfits should transition from work to casual-wear. Weekday chilling becomes a thing and you need to be hang-ready all the time. See-through fabrics such as tulle is a great way to do just that. This fun fabric can be made work-appropriate with clever layering and then removed for a fun, party-look.
Another practical summer tactic is to wear white because it is a great way to beat the heat. That is precisely why the white on white combo look is the trend you are going to love to wear the most!
Rehashing Old Classics
Blast from the past trends will mainly originate from the 70s and 80s this season. 70s jumpsuits in cotton and breathable materials will feature highly for daywear. Also prepare to see some bright, neon colors such as lime, pink and yellow that seems to be inspired from that era.
Meanwhile the 80s is poised to dictate the party scene. So, get ready for the shoulder-baring look. In fact, this look is currently available in every store clothing rack across the world! The flared sleeves and the shorter silhouettes that defined that post-disco era are also making comebacks. The lo-hi midi skirt and top was quite the rage a few years ago but since then, it seemed to drift off. That style is getting a makeover this season as slit lo-hi midi dresses.
Summer Shoe Trends
Summer 2017’s shoe trends are quite the mixed-lot. If 70s jumpsuits are in then platforms would be “in” too, right? Yes! In fact, platform (in every form) is making a giant leap towards a comeback. Steve Madden’s recent announcement that it was relaunching its flatform sandal is causing many of us to have major throwback anxiety. Nonetheless flatforms with some additional detailing as well as high-heeled platforms are “in” this season. Rounded heeled shoes will also be making an eerie entry into the style files.
One other shoe trend includes strappy heels with flair details such as pom-poms or strap embellishments. The next trend might surprise you: the sock and heel combo which means ugly footwear is cool again! As for everyday wear, we are delving deep into comfortable sandal territory with the slider sandal becoming a mainstay (inspired from the flatform’s return).
